Elvar Smári Júlíusson is a musician and designer who works in many areas, including composition, production, mixing, and arranging. He is an active collaborator in the Icelandic music scene and has worked with artists such as K.óla, Flott, Iðunn Einars, and Sævar Jóhannsson. Elvar has also released his own music through Möller Records and has performed at festivals such as Iceland Airwaves.
In 2024, the album Í hennar heimi by Iðunn Einars was released, for which Elvar handled production, mixing, and performed on various instruments. The album received the Kraumur Award and was nominated for the Icelandic Music Awards as Album of the Year. In addition, one song from the album, Sameinast, was chosen as Song of the Year on the radio show Straumur on X977. Elvar has also received recognition from the Icelandic Music Awards and the The Icelandic Graphic Design Association for album artwork.
Elvar has taken part in music production for film and television, including the TV series King & Conqueror under the direction of Högni Egilsson and Reykjavík Fusion with Veigar Margeirsson. In 2025, he has also worked closely with the instrument manufacturer Genki Instruments on the development of Katla, the first Icelandic synthesizer, specifically designed with the needs of composers in mind.
Elvar studied music production at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen and computer music at the Kópavogur Music School. In 2021, he graduated with a BA degree in composition from the Iceland University of the Arts.
